My Father was one of the first and founder members of the RAF Regiment
when it was formed from RAF Ground Gunners during WW2. He served from
1941 to 1946 inclusive. I myself am ex RAF reserve (Regiment). I served
for 18 years and reached the rank of Warrant Officer. |

Hi Tim, good site, an ex rock gave me the gen, I was an ex flip-flop
soldier, we also won just about everything on the island in my time
too!! not bad for not so many, our HQ was the PS bar & angling club.
Has anyone ever come across the following: Bill Renwick "geordie
maggot" Glyn Teare - somewhere in Herts ?? Richard Collison
Manchester ?? We were all on the guns 40/70 & in the cooler in

Great site tim, lots of memories seeing the photos and familiar names
in the dreambook. Seen Pasty Leggett twice since i've been out in '95,
he's a copper with the Devon and Cornwall force. I served on 15, 34, 51
and 814 at Marham, and now i'm in the MOD Guard service, money for old
rope! I don't know if you remember me, i was the Cornish one who no

I think the regiment is fantastic, I'm in my first year of Sixth Form,
and I am awaiting my second aptitude test for the RAF and I'm aiming
towards being a RAF Gunner myself and I have to say it looks great, your
photos show that it is a good way of life, but not so glamarous in war. |

Served on 15 from 85-89. Now a black cab driver in Plymouth - had a
medical discharge from the Reggie but went on and joined the Legion.
Served in the Gulf - what a joke that was. Since written a book on the
subject on how to join the Legion - now looking for a publisher to print

I am something of an old stager by your standards. I served with No.62
Squadron in Aden, Cyprus and Libya during 1955/1956. I was a National
Serviceman and I have to say I enjoyed every minute of my service.
Particularly in Aden. It was mostly an internal security role there but
the tours up-country to the Radfan mountains was interesting. We moved
to El Adem in early 1956 and spent most of the time on mine-clearing
duties with one month trips to Nicosia for security duties during the
Enosis emergency. When I left 62 Sqd was being integrated into 3 Wing at
the time of the Suez crisis. My demob was delayed a few weeks by that
event but not too much. I considered re-enlisting but cupid got me

Hi Tim, not sure wether our paths crossed or not but have to say you
have done a great job on this. The photo's are great will send some of

My Grandfather, Sidney James Spurdens, was a member of No2 Armoured
Car Company - Driving the Rolls Royce Armoured Cars in TransJordania. He
used to tell me about the early days, before he died. He remembered the
time when No1 & No2 ACC were formed. Apparently they had to march
towards the officer in single file and they were made to form up to his
left and right alternately. Those on one side became 1ACC and the others
were 2ACC. We used to have a photograph of him and his colleagues
holding the banners you described after the major battle with the Whabbi
(?) Apparently the only injury on their side was on of the pilots was
shot through the leg. Its good to see a site that even mentions this

THE 80TH IIsqn has order a limited number of Anniversary wine to mark
the 80th celeberation the bottle will the sqn creast and the dates of
the event.This is top stuff the wine company is called Shawgate they
sell there wines to Harrods of London, and normally sold at Ł15 a
bottle.So it not somethings we brewed up in the sqn canteen over leave,
although the thought did cross my mind.We will have three types of wine
Dry white,medium white and Airborne Red.The sqn will be selling them at
Ł5, Ł6,and Ł8 respectively. So if you like your wine or the fact that
is has something to do with the sqn you can pre-order by emailing me or
calling the sqn Orderly room after 26th April. You will be able to
resevre yourseleves your wine we will not be taking money until you
collect it.Sounds like a bargin. Enough enough will be the cry when the

Apologies to all but it looks like I won't be able to make the

Reference Vic Rose’s last message. Vic the reunion is not just for
serving Rocks, it is planed by Johno and Dan Dare for anyone who served
at H (II & 15 Sqn). You read my message wrong. When I quoted
“SERVING ROCKS” (Feb 20th 2002) this was reference accommodation at
RAF Lyneham because civilians would be unable to get accommodation
there. However when we last checked on the state of accommodation there
it was not looking good. There are probably more ex rocks who will show
than serving ones because of how long H has been shut. I hope that’s

Be afraid,be very afraid, yesterday I carried out my final 'recce'
& have selected (and paid up front!)a suitable basha area (B&B)
just arund the corner from the working mans club in Chippenham. I shall
be in the "Sir Audleys Arms" (thats the correct name of the
pub!!) at lunchtime on the 8th, jeans'n'desies as usual. I bumped into
"Eddie"Cambran outside the pictures in Swindon on sunday night
& he says he'll be at the reunion" as well. Personally I can't
wait to see loads of 40 yr old blokes drinkin' & actin' like we were

If anybody's ever wondered what it looked like in the "med
centre" at Rourkes Drift, then you should have walked into the
"Sir Audley's Arms" pub on sunday morning, (Hibbert,wake up
and get out of that car!!) as predicted, with the addition of LOTTSA
booze, time travelled backwards and the ravages of age disappeard (well,
apart from MY coupon!!)and once again, Chippenham was home to us all.

Thanks to all the guys (SERVING OR NON SERVING) who turned up to the
reunion in Chippenham. An absolutely top night was had by all. Those who
didn’t turn up because you thought it might have been a wind up, or
just couldn’t make it. Then you’ll have to make next year’s one.
Great to see some old faces from the past that are no out! Tony
“Papa” Levy, Reg Varny, Steve Geddis, Russ Pearson, Eddie Cameron,
Joe Hughes, Kev Hart, Mark de Haven, Andy Butler and loads more. Even
more fun, was seeing some of the girls who used to know the lads,
luckily no unexpected children were there. Big thanks to Dan and Johno
for organising the event, and Wayne for the use of his pub. Look forward
to seeing you all there 2003. |

Hello to old friends out there that know me, and to you Tim for
creating the opportunity to "step back in time". I was a
WRAF at Hullavington 82-87 and 89-90 working in Para Serv.....I
recognise a lot of the names from your guest book, namely those of you
on 2sqn 83-87, some of 15sqn (although we didnt have a lot to do with
them) and a few 3 sqn in 89, not being privvy to your grapevine would
like to know how people are and what they are doing now. Those of you
who think you know me may also remember other WRAFs of the time,
Theresa Youngs, Dawn Mcmichael,Sharon Quinlan and Penny Scott to name
a few. You may also remember the parties of that era, the fancy dress
dooos in the famillies (I have a photo of 7 dwarfs and who was it that
went as a christmas tree?) not to mention the vicars and tarts in the
rugby club and the WRAF v Rocks rugby matches, etc etc.....I left the
service as cpl in 90 on pregnancy, married to a civvi with 2 children
aged 12 and 10 I still live in the Midlands and now collect overdue
debts. Although you have all given email addresses I feel I am
intruding on an 'Old boys club' and would like to hear from anyone who
knows me, even those few close friends that may have chosen to forget!
(be brave we have moved on 15 years). Hope to hear from you soon. Take

We have recently completed a website honouring the memory of Flight
Sergeant Harry Hansell RCAF, an air gunner who died in a Halifax
bomber over Germany in 1943. His very personal story was in many ways
typical of hundreds of Canadian boys, yet his father the Honorable
Ernest G. Hansell M.P. was able to determine many details of his war
service that often were never known by families who lost sons or
